Suggestions on How To Resolve A Consumer Dispute

Most automotive disputes result from a lack of communication between consumers and dealership, manufacturer or distributor or other representatives. If a problem arises, it is suggested that a customer should follow these simple procedures:

Always be prepared to provide the following information:

• Vehicle information (make, year, model, mileage)
• The nature of the problem (sales, service, warranty, advertising)
• A brief description of the problem
• The action or solution desired

First
Always speak to someone in authority at the dealership. If the problem involves a sales transaction, speak to the sales manager.  If service is unsatisfactory or the problem involves a defect in the vehicle, contact the service manager. If you are still dissatisfied, you should ask to see the customer relations manager, general manager or dealership owner.  Dealership staff are anxious to retain satisfied customers and should be happy to help resolve problems.

Second
If a satisfactory solution can't be reached and the problem is with the vehicle itself or with service provided by the manufacturer or importer, contact the manufacturers' customer relations office.

Third
If the problem is unresolved after following the First and Second step, and the manufacturer endorses or sponsors a third-party dispute resolution program, that program should be contacted directly. Click on a manufacturer's name below to connect to that manufacturer's web site.
